The theme for the second issue of 2008 is "Art as a Social Movement."

Art is and always has been a vehicle for social change, whether being part of a movement or being a movement on its own. Everything from the Peace Sign to Tommie Smith and John Carlos' raised fist during the '68 Olympics continuing on to the many art periods and forms such as the renaissance or contemporary periods and continuing on to keffiyehs and kente cloths and the list goes on. Art and the expression of it has always been an integral part of creating change.

Insight 17 will look at various ways that art has been part of and continues to represent a social movement.

Social movement -- oooh such a "contemporary catch" phrase. It has a wide definition which varies greatly from mind to mind day to day including everything from the "activist" term to organizing marches to raising consciousness awareness to helping an individual out to volunteer teaching to your photos of individuals striving and making change to you writing a words of progression within your room; get the picture or do we need to keep going.
